Abstract

Objective of this work is to analyze the problems of the further existence of the National Park Šumava in terms of the bark beetle calamities, the evaluation of proposals for the possible solutions as well as opinions in terms of securing its economical existence. The topic has been chosen due to the current environmental problem – the bark beetle calamity, which arose in the territory of Šumava and persisting a long time. The work gives a picture of various opinions on how to act against bark beetle in the territory of National Park Šumava, when the process of revitalization of forest ecosystems brings various difficulties. Further in the work there is described the situation of Bavarian Forest National Park as well as of National Park Šumava and single attitudes on solving the bark beetle calamity. Both National parks as a regions built for the purpose of nature preservation have clearly defined the policies against the European spruce bark beetle. The parks cooperate on many projects, whose common goal is the preservation of unique complex of forests in central Europe.
