Abstract
Masonry structures on existing buildings often need to be subjected to surveys and tests, which will help us gain knowledge about the characteristic properties of masonry elements. The need to examine masonry can also result from the manifestation of various defects and damages. In the case of historical buildings, there is usually a big problem with increased moisture in the masonry structures. However, it is always necessary to know the structural and material solution of the object to choose appropriate diagnostic methods. This is also the case for moisture surveys, where we can choose different test methods.
The theoretical part of this work is focused on the description of the material solution of masonry structures. It also deals with masonry moisture, its manifestations, causes and methods of determining its value. The practical part deals with the creation of a methodology for measuring humidity using a microwave hygrometer. The device is first tested on laboratory samples from different brick elements. The calibration of the obtained results is performed on the basis of the values from the gravimetric measurement. After that, a survey of three building objects is carried out, on which the calibration relations obtained in the laboratory are used.
