Abstract

The work is devoted to research potential development of shale gas in the Paleogene sediments of the Outer Western Carpathians. The assumption of development is tended to Menilite Formation. The first part of this contribution deals with general geological evolution of the Menilite Formation and its representation in the various geological units. Next follows a brief description of shale gas and its possible characteristics in parent rock. An overview of the examined sites is following in study of outcrops where samples were taken. The next section describes the methods used for identification of organic material in the samples, the type of kerogens and thermal alteration of organic material in the rock. On the conclusion is evaluation of all the underlying methods of studying these samples and the provisions of the final deduction.
