Abstract

The aim of the diploma thesis "Swedish welfare state and its current form" is to explore the basic pillars on which the Swedish model of economic policy has been built since the early 30s of the 20th century to the present, using the analytic - synthetic and descriptive method, as well as to point out the influence of the changes in the approach to the welfare state on the stability of the Swedish economy. Approximately in the 1970s weaknesses and limits of the model of the welfare state began to manifest themselves. These were the result of achieving certain limits, beyond which the amount of social services provided by the state got into conflict with the overall economic performance. The solution to this situation was not the disappearance of the concept of the welfare state, but its gradual adaptation to changing conditions, in order to ensure its long term sustainability. In this thesis, attention is focused on the changes in fiscal policy and tax burden in Sweden, as these areas are linked to the welfare state and ranked among the main causes leading to the need for modification of the original ideas of this concept.
