První část shrnuje základní poznatky související s problematikou hodnocení investic, charakterizuje základní pojmy a veličiny ovlivňující investiční rozhodování, popisuje jednotlivé fáze investičního procesu a podává rozbor metod užívaných pro analýzu efektivnosti investic.
