Comparison of Conventional and Islamic Banking

Abstract

The prupose of this thesis is to give a comprehensive comparison between conventional and Islamic finance. Moreover, it will provide comparison between different conventional and Islamic mortgages in UAE; in order to find the optimal option of mortgage for a defined physical person, based on MCDA methodology. For this study, sample of 10 banks, 5 conventional banks and 5 Islamic banks were selected. In order to perform multi-criteria analysis, we have choosen 7 criteria, and we have applied two methods, Weighted Sequence Method and Saaty Method. As a result of the study, mortgage from Noor bank had the best ranking in our analysis and considered the best choice for our defined client. Findings of our comparison shows that the conditions, pricing and requirements of these mortgages between the 10 selected banks have varied by a small percentage, while religious view can affect the decision of the potential client by choosing conventional or Islamic bank.
