Abstract

Bachelor thesis deals with the issue of past, present and future monetary union. Then is in work carried out analyse on the readiness of the Czech Republic join the euro area and evaluate the potential advantages and risks of the common European currency. Each member of the European Union has a duty in the future to connect to euro area. Entry into the euro area, however, subject to compliance with the convergence criteria. At present, the Czech Republic does not meet the convergence criteria, the long-term difficulties in meeting the criteria of government deficits. Decisions on the introduction of the euro is a purely political matter, the current situation (economic crisis, early parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic) suggests that the official date of the adoption of the euro shall notify the Czech government later than originally planned it.
