Abstract

Separation of gases mixtures by using adsorption was reported here. Specifically mixture of CH4-CO2 representing biogas, which was purified from the carbon dioxide. For this application was used PSA method in two-column arrangement with granulated active carbon as adsorbent. The Experimental part is dedicated to launching apparatus for measuring of breakthrough curves and apparatus for PSA with the design of experimental methodology. Two steel pressure-tight columns filled by granulated active carbon were used for measurement of breakthrough curves, PSA process and several additional experiments such as measurement of tightness of the columns etc. In this thesis are presented selected measurement results of breakthrough curves for two gas mixtures. The first one was a mixture of CO2-air and the second one was CH4-air. Assumption that air is a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen, which no significantly adsorb and does not contribute on adsorption capacity of activated carbon for the substance was used. The PSA experiments for purifying mixture of CH4-CO2 from the carbon dioxide/(CO2) performed in two ways were represented too. The suggestions for optimization of two-column arrangement of PSA also as design of the experiment for a partial simulation of the columns layout were introduced in this thesis too.
