Abstract
This thesis deals with the public debt of the Czech Republic. The aim was to identify the development and structure of the public debt of the Czech Republic in the years 2012–2022. To examine the development of public debt in the monitored period, we used a horizontal analysis of the indicators of the absolute amount of public debt, the growth rate of public debt, the share of public debt to GDP, the amount of public debt per inhabitant and the share of interest from public debt to GDP. We have broken down the structure of the Czech Republic's public debt in the monitored period according to the level of government, the financial instrument used, the denominated currency and the maturity period. The result of the analysis was the finding that the share of public debt to GDP, the size of public debt per inhabitant and the share of interest from public debt to GDP in the Czech Republic in the years 2012-2022 are among the 30% lowest among the countries of the European Union. Furthermore, we found that the average growth rate of the public debt of the Czech Republic in the monitored period is the eighth highest among the countries of the European Union. In connection with the structure of the public debt, we came to the conclusion that the share of debt in the national currency in the total public debt in the Czech Republic in 2022 is lower than in 70% of the countries of the European Union and that the share of short-term debt in the total public debt of the Czech Republic is 2022 below average within the countries of the European Union.
