Mach-Zehnderův interferometr jako modulátor pro optické komunikace

Abstract

This thesis deals with the problems of application of Mach-Zehnder interferometer as a modulator for optical communications. The theoretical part of the thesis includes explanations of basic terminology used in this subject area, namely the concept of light interference, the principles of superposition of oscillation, radiation coherence and coherent radiation sources. It is followed by description of apparatus based on the principle of light interference – i.e. interferometers (their types, the principles on which they work and the range of their usage). The subject area is closely connected with the problems of analysis of the signal used in digital transfer, which is dealt with in chapter 3. The concepts of eye pattern, Q-factor, bit error rate of BER channel or the separation between signal and SNR noise are analysed here. The theoretical part is completed by chapter 4, dealing with modulators. The practical part of the thesis is summarised in chapter 5 called Measurement of Mach-Zehnder Interferometer Properties. It includes the circuit diagram, requirements upon the individual components used in the circuit, measured data and their evaluation. The whole work is a compilation of known facts relating to the set tasks, followed by concrete results gained by measurement on experimental set of apparatus.
