Abstract
Modification of surface characteristics such as morphology or chemical composition may effectively increase the chance of proper fixation and subsequent functionality of biocompatible metal implants. The theoretical part of this thesis defines the main attributes of titanium and its alloys in human body applications. Furthermore, surface treatment methods of titanium-based materials are summarized with the focus on anodization.
The experimental part is concerned with the preparation of nanostructural surface coatings on commercially pure titanium and Ti6Al4V alloy with bimodal structure by the mean of anodization. The aim of this work was to evaluate parameters of anodization on formation and properties of prepared nanostructural coatings before and after heat treatment. Following methods were implemented to characterize the surfaces of the samples: optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and atomic force microscopy. Corrosion properties were evaluated by the mean of linear polarization in simulated physiological solution.
