Abstract

The goal of the diploma thesis is to analyze the security of the Android mobile operating system, describe malicious software that can compromise data stored on such mobile devices, design security measures, and evaluate the effect of implementing these measures based on results from their testing. The theoretical chapter provides a description of the Android architecture, followed by a description of the security model. The conclusion of the theoretical chapter pinpoints the most common types of malicious software designed for the Android OS and their concrete examples. Next, the practical chapter provides an analysis of the results from a survey examining user awareness of security. All results are graphically presented and described in words. Lastly, based on the analysis and survey results, the final chapter proposes solutions to minimize the risk of infecting mobile devices by malicious applications. The diploma thesis serves as a basis for mobile users running the Android operating system, who are interested to learn about malicious software that may interfere with their privacy or dispose of stored data, and the tools and methods designed to minimize the risk off using such software.
