Abstract

The presented master’s thesis deals with the technical design of a small water reservoir with a retention function in Stará Ves near Bílovec. This location struggles with the insufficient water retention capacity of the landscape and the risk of flooding. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part provides a comprehensive description of the area of interest in terms of its historical, natural, and hydrological conditions. Emphasis is placed on identifying problems associated with concentrated surface runoff and analyzing the flood situation from September 2024, including the mapping of critical locations in Stará Ves. Furthermore, the theoretical part addresses the technical and legislative basis for the design of small water reservoirs, such as the classification of dams, the properties of construction materials, and the design of hydraulic structures. The practical part presents the design of a small water reservoir with a retention function on the right-bank tributary of the Bílovka River at river km 14.7. Prior to the actual design, a field and photogrammetric survey of the site was conducted. The design itself deals with the sizing of a non-homogeneous earthfill dam with a central impervious core, which is supported by hydrotechnical calculations of bathymetric curves, the spillway, the assessment of the need for a stilling basin, and the bottom outlet. The practical part also includes the preparation of the accompanying technical drawings in the form of a site plan, a longitudinal profile of the dam and the reservoir, and cross-sections of the dam and the bottom outlet. Finally, the functionality of the technical design is supported by a flood wave routing simulation. The calculation demonstrates that the proposed reservoir can reliably reduce a hundred-year peak flow to the level of a twenty-year flood.
