Abstract
Duration of search for alternative fuels because of imminent exhaustion of fossil fuels brings new questions in use of energy from biofuels. For correct and safe use of this natural wealth, is necessary to know characteristics of the selected energy biofuels at first. In this study were laboratory tested selected nine kinds of energetic grasses. The resulting parameters (calorific value, ash content, volatile matter, the contents of the majority of the elements, moisture in the solids and the amount of water-soluble alkalis) were compared with parameters of brown coal. Calorific value of coal is about 30 MJ/kg and calorific value of energy grasses is 16 to 18 MJ/kg. That might seem like basic negative for the grass. But for example the sulfur content is much lower in biomass than in coal.
