Abstract

The thesis deals with a Single Spark Evaluation (SSE) method in OES for monitoring of X52 steel micro-cleanliness. Thermo-mechanically rolled plates made of this steel grade are used for production of welded pipelines for transportation of oil and natural gas. The SSE in OES results are compared with results of micro-cleanliness evaluation by both optical microscopy and X-ray microanalysis. Furthermore, oxygen content, as determined by the thermo-evolution method, is taken into account. The results prove that SSE method in OES can be used for qualitative and partly also quantitative evaluation of steel micro-cleanliness. This method can be applied as a supplement of classical methods of micro-cleanliness evaluation.
