Abstract

The thesis is divided into three main chapters devoted to ceramic materials that are currently indispensable component of today's industrial applications and in particular the conventional materials (such as steel) in areas where these materials for some of its properties are failing. The first chapter deals with the historical development of ceramic materials since the first appearance to the present and explains the general concepts in ceramics, such as sintering, or making ceramic body. A separate part of this chapter is the development of ceramic materials in the Czech Republic. The second chapter describes the distribution of ceramic materials by use. Furthermore, there are the main types of traditional ceramics. The chapter deals with different types of earthenware, imitation porcelain, earthenware, pottery or health. The third and last chapter deals with special ceramic materials, especially its properties. Describes the oxidative and non-oxidative ceramics, ceramics for blast furnaces, basic types of electrical ceramic and bioceramic composite materials.
