Abstract
The thesis deals with the electrochemical corrosion of buried pipelines as a result of stray current activity. DC powered rail transit systems are one of the biggest sources of stray currents. The thesis also describes protective methods designed to limit the impacts and effects of stray currents. Furthermore, it describes measurements performed on a buried pipeline as well as cathodic protection measurements. The practical part of the thesis describes a measurement carried out in a particular location which includes potential measurements, measurements of fields of current and determination of stray current activity in the ground with a subsequent evaluation of measurement results.
