Abstract
This master’s thesis focuses on analyzing the output voltage quality and stability of low-dropout (LDO) regulators. The theoretical section provides a comprehensive review of DC power supplies, comparing them based on parameters critical for powering sensitive analog and digital systems, specifically noise, power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) and transient responses. As part of the work, a testing fixture and a measurement methodology for the evaluation of these characteristics are developed. The experimental section compares three generations of switching converters and LDO regulators on custom PCBs to illustrate technological advancements and the impact of circuit design on final stability. The outcomes of this thesis include quantitative comparisons and practical recommendations for the design of power supply chains in high-precision, low-current electronics.
