Abstract
This thesis is devoted to the actual topic of the use of wood in construction. Attention
was focused on the construction of footbridges for pedestrians and cyclists and to increase
their life span.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of wood and propose
possible measures that would increase the utility value and service life of wooden structures.
In this work it deals with also glued lamellar wood, the history of its creation and use, as well
as an evaluation of its strengths.
Finally there is the conduct and results of experimental measurements of the new
insulating materials Polyurea. The aim of this experiment is to record the behavior of the
insulating material and the timber in their joint action.
The last part deals with the verification of static behavior of the real structure
footbridge in Velký Šenov.
