Abstract

This thesis deals with the issue of signal clipping in audio power amplifiers, with a focus on the suppression of hard clipping, which negatively affects sound quality due to the generation of higher-order harmonic components and the loss of information in the signal. The main objective of this work is the design of an amplifier whose behavior approaches the ideal from a listening perspective while maintaining realistic economic requirements. The thesis analyzes selected design approaches, including voltage-dependent feedback, input signal limiting using a limiter, composition of the output signal from multiple amplification stages with different levels, and the use of digital limiters (DSP). Furthermore, attention is given to vacuum tube amplifiers, in which soft clipping occurs naturally while preserving the superimposed component of the signal, thereby minimizing information loss during clipping.
