Abstract

The work evaluates the level of material utilization of slag from iron and steel production. The brief characterization of the origination of metallurgical slags is provided in this work. Based on the search through available literature sources the specification of the major industrial applications of the slag and advantages and disadvantages of these utilization methods are emphasised. The focus of this work is concentrated on the description of the slags processing from the economical point of view in a steel plant ArcelorMittal Ostrava. On the basis of obtained information, model for effective material utilization of slags is elaborated. The current system of slag processing is quite good, although it is possible to propose several recommendations to growth its efficiency. The plant should create an effective marketing support for slag product. The diversification of various products with flexible response to market needs have to be maintained. Efforts to implement results from research and development in the field of ladle slag utilization needed to be increased.
