Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to streamline the inspection of steel ropes in industry and transport. The complete research is focused on the magnetic crack detection method, whose principle is magnetized steel wire rope and by sensing the leakage magnetic field (which occurs around defects) assessment of its condition. By this method there were measured etalons of steel ropes with artificial defects, both in the laboratory and ropes used in normal traffic. Further models of steel ropes were made with defects in different places and responses of their stray magnetic fields were made by method of finite element in ANSYS software. For extending the possibility of measurement was developed optical flaw RemaOptic, which allows users to record video of the surface of the rope. The results of this dissertation are records of magnetic measurements of steel wire ropes, mathematical models of defects on the surface of steel ropes and prototype of the newly developed optical flaw. These results represent a major contribution to increasing the safety and effectiveness wherever steel ropes are used.
