Abstract
One of the fundamental and open tasks in the characterization of physical, or physico-chemical phenomena related to the fire and the explosion is quantification of the mixtures flash point temperatures. Presented diploma thesis deals with the prediction of the flash point temperatures of alcohols binary mixtures with the application for alternative fuels and in safety. In the theoretical part selected alcohols are described together with their physico-chemical properties and safety parameters. The mathematical and physical models used for the theoretical prediction of flash point temperatures are also defined. These models are ideal gas model and models for not ideal gas calculation using the activity coefficients by Wilson, NRTL and UNIQUAC. The experimental part is focused on the verification of selected alcohols mixtures flash point temperatures by using the Abel closed cup tester method on a semi-automatic Petrotest AB5 device. The primary outcomes of this diploma thesis are the calculation and verification of original data of methanol / propan-1-ol and methanol / butan-1-ol mixtures and calculations of flash point temperatures for 5 binary mixtures of alcohols, namely mixtures of methanol / ethanol; ethanol / butan-1-ol; propan-1-ol / butan-1-ol; propanol / penta-1-ol butanol / pentan-1-ol.
