Abstract
The subject of a doctoral dissertation thesis is the issue of competitiveness, which is analysed and evaluated at national level of the European Union Member States. The main aim of doctoral dissertation thesis is to develop a comprehensive view of the level of productivity as a factor of competitiveness in the EU countries and to derive technical and technological efficiency changes contributing to overall productivity of evaluated countries assessed in reference period 2000-2012 through multivariate methods and multicriteria decision making method. Ensuring the objective of doctoral dissertation thesis is closely related to the validation of relationship between competitiveness and productivity. This relationship is given by the initial hypothesis of doctoral dissertation theses based on the level of productivity, which is perceived as a crucial factor of competitive potential, respectively, it is assumed if the area has a higher level of productivity, this reflects the efficient and effective use of competitive advantages, which may lead to the strengthening of its competitiveness. Conclusions of doctoral dissertation thesis based on the results of factor analysis, data envelopment analysis method and cluster analysis, shows that the new EU Member States have a comparable level of productivity as the advanced original EU Member States. In many respects, there is a convergence of competitiveness level between these two groups of countries states by changes in productivity.
