Abstract
The growing popularity of IP cameras gave rise to the problem of how to communicate with these devices. One of the possible solutions is to use the ONVIF standard. This young standard, founded in 2008 by Axis Communications, Bosh Security Systems, and Sony, permits the IP cameras to communicate between each other and with other devices. The main corner stones of the ONVIF standard are the standardization of communication between the network cameras, interoperability regardless the manufacturer, and openness for all companies. The last feature is connected with the fact that ONVIF is a non-profit organization. Nowadays, the ONVIF standard is in version 2.1.1. The goal of this thesis is to collect information about this technology. The thesis also contains a practical part whose goal was to implement a program for communicating with the ONVIF cameras. The program can be regarded as an practical overview of the environment and functions that are typical in this standard.
