Abstract

This diploma thesis is focused on the design and simulation of mechanical stress sensor utilizing Bragg grating. The thesis is divided into two parts. In the first part there are theoretical knowledge about the basic element used for the sensor part thus Bragg gratings. It explains how to write the Bragg grating to optical fiber, what are the types of grids and the use of these grids in real conditions. The second part is focusd on the design and simulation of mechanical stress sensor using Bragg gratings in the program Optiwave OptiSystem 13. This section describes the settings of individual components in the design for the two systems. The first is using a Fabry-Pérot evaluation of the optical filter and the second is using the Bragg grating. There are also shown simulation results with specified parameters for both types of evaluation. From these results are calculated basic parameters for each system, such sensitivity, range and accuracy.
