Abstract

The Ph.D. Thesis deal on the application of FEM to the design and behavior of induction motor with squirrel rotor cage. The induction motor is the most common rotary electric machine. The content of the presented work deals with its correct design from an electrical point of view. The introduction summarizes the basic knowledge of physics and mathematics necessary to understand the principles by which simulations are performed. The use of commercial software products ANSYS Maxwell and COMSOL Multiphysics is used for the solution itself. The work is firstly focused on creating models necessary for simulation and then the models are modified and solved with respect to the requirements, whereas the simulations using FEM are used. The penultimate chapter is focused on fault conditions, where it is indicated how the motors will behave in fault states. Up to the penultimate chapter, the models are confronted with measurements on real motors. In the last chapter, the simulated motors are again compared with real measurements.
