Abstract

The aim of this work is to determine the influence of social capital on the corruption in the EU countries. Therefore is the second chapter focused on the definition, types, and options for measuring of social capital and corruption. Social capital is the aggregate of social networks, social trust and involvement of the population. Corruption is the abuse of their own position for gain unauthorized profit. Social capital is measured by indicator of Public Trust in Politicians and corruption is measured by Corruption Perception Index. The third chapter is focused on the relationship between social capital and corruption. It´s focused on the influence of social capital on corruption and on the other hand on the influence of corruption on social capital. The fourth chapter examines the hypothesis that exists a direct linear relationship between the level of social capital and the level of corruption. This part of chapter is concentrated on the level of Public Trust in Politicians and on the level of the Corruption Perception Index in 2012. The hypothesis of this work was confirmed by correlation analysis. Both of the measured values are interdependent and they´re mutually influence each other.The biggest impact of social capital on the level of corruption in the EU countries was measured in the Nordic countries.
