Abstract
Institute of the minimum wage is one of many economic and political measures on the labor market. This topic is often discussed. Minimum wage is a strong, versatile acting intervention that is introduced in the Czech legislation and also in legislation in many countries of the European Union. Proponents of minimum wage have an opinion, that the minimum wage helps to reduce poverty and income inequality in society. Proponents also highlight its social function and remind, that the minimum wage motivate unemployed labor force and contributes to employment growth. According to opponents of the minimum wage, it is undesirable interference in effective functioning of the market, which in turn may contribute to the growth of unemployment and leads to a decline in the economy. Workers with low income may be threatened by the introduction or growth of minimum wage. They lose their job due to higher price of labor and they also lose the previous low income.
The aim of this thesis is to analyze the minimum wage in the Czech Republic and in Great Britain, Luxembourg and France. The thesis is divided into several chapters. After introduction, there is chapter including theoretical issues. In the third chapter, there is the analysis of the minimum wage in the Czech Republic and in countries of European Union. The fourth chapter, there is a comparison of the minimum wage in the Czech Republic and in selected countries. The comparison is made with selected economic indicators. End of work contains suggestions and recommendations on the minimum wage and conslusion.
