Abstract

The bachelor thesis deals with the theory of printed mass media. It tries to outline what is a periodical press and describe the graphic form of the newspaper. The next part of the thesis is devoted to the historical development of printed media from the beginning to the present. The thesis describes the development of newspapers in key European countries, in USA and in Czech. It also deals with the characteristics of professional and popular-science magazines. The thesis also mentions the first magazines in selected foreign countries and the first magazines in Czech Republic. It describes the journals Živá Histore and History Revue that are being explored. Chapters four and five deal with the content analysis of the journals. The results of the bachelor thesis showed that the printed mass media gave people the opportunity to learn information from more remote locations from their home and even news from abroad. Even though the printed media have been developing for many centuries, the internet has taken over despite the short time of developing.
