Abstract
This work is focused on photocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide in presence of ZnS photocatalyst loaded on montmorillonite. Purpose of the carbon dioxide photoreduction is to transform CO2 into less harmful and better exploitable materials.
Photocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide was carried out in stirred annular batch reactor. Photocatalyst ZnS-MMT was suspended in four different aqueous solutions (NaOH, NH4OH, NaOH+Na2SO3 a NH4OH+Na2SO3). These solutions were saturated by CO2 and than irradiated by 8W Hg lamp with wavelength 254 nm. This UV lamp was placed into quartz glass tube. Products of the photoreduction were methane, carbon monooxide and hydrogen in gas phase and methanol in liquid phase.
Based on experimental datas we can say that yields of products were different in dependence on reduction medium. If the yields of CH4 and CH3OH gained from aqueous solutions NaOH and NH4OH are compared higher yields were gained in NaOH solution. Addition of Na2SO3 increased yields of products of photocatalytic reduction of CO2 only in liquid phase. NaOH was determined as the optimal reduction medium becouse of the highest yields of methane which is main product of photocatalytic reduction of CO2
