Abstract
In this work, fixed-beds with chemical activation mixtures of cones were employed to selectively remove manganese aqueous solution. The effects of various operating conditions such as flow rate (10, 20, 40 ml min-1), bed height (5, 10, 15 cm) and pH 6,0 of the feed solution on the performance of the fixed beds were investigated. Better selectivity was obtained at a higher bed height 15 cm and lower flow rate 10 ml min-1. In most adsorption processes, the adsorbent is in contact with fluid in a fixed bed. Fixed-bed column mathematical models are required to predict the performance of the adsorptive separation of manganese for optimizing design and operating conditions. Thomas model, Yoon-Nelson and Bed Depth Service Time (BDST) models were used to analyze the experimental results. Mathematical models were found to show a good agreement with the experimental results. The dynamic parameters such as rate constant (kTh, K), 50% breakthrough time (τ), theoretical adsorption capacity (N0, q0) were determined.
