Abstract

This diploma thesis examines the use of specially trained dogs in drug scent detection. The theoretical section covers the history of service dog training, the physiology of a dog’s sense of smell, criteria for selecting suitable dogs for service training, their deployment in service, and specific training methods for drug detection dogs. The practical part of the thesis focuses on experimentally verifying a dog’s ability to identify drugs in a masking environment. Based on the proposed experiment, the extent to which various methods of masking odors can affect a dog’s ability to correctly identify the presence of the sought substance will be assessed, and the data obtained will subsequently be analyzed and used to formulate the conclusions of this thesis.
