Abstract

This work deals with cellular automata, whose basic principles are used for simulation of spreading of liquid on the Earth surface. The rules and conditions underlying cellular automata were appropriately optimised to guarantee multi-flow spreading of liquid with a possibility to simulate different types of liquid. The resulting cellular automaton is developed as a console application, which can be integrated into existing GIS applications after a modification of input and output parameters. A problem of time consuming algorithms connected with cellular automata is also discussed and several optimisation approaches that increase the speed of providing outputs generated by cellular automaton are proposed.
