Abstract

Materials are exposed to different stress such as tension, compression, torsion, shear and bending during processing and using. This stress often doesn´t work individually, but mostly at the same time. To resist this stress material must have sufficient strength, hardness, elasticity and plasticity. The mechanical properties of materials are effedted especially by temperature that can change the crystalline structure of the material. Indentation technique becomes still wider application during evaluating the properties of brittle materials, and is used for evaluationof the mechanical properties of ceramic materials, for the measurement of fracture toughness or fatigue responses. Sharp Vickers indentation is used for indentation technique. This indentation is preferred for the simplicity of its application to the tested material. Very important is the preparation of surface of the tested material.
