Abstract

Doctoral dissertation work: Analyzes the construction of horizontal underground workings in rocks with high overburden and extreme (unexpected) groundwater inflows. Doctoral dissertation analyzes the experiences gainded during the construction of Hédinsfjörður project in Iceland based on the knowledge and implementations of similar project Lærdal in Norway. The aim of this report: Is to elaborate on theoretical material that will bring more light into current construction of horizontal underground projects. On top of this, one of the outcomes is a description of methodology and presentation technology of tunnels excavation with high overburden. Work defines specifed technology in Hédinsfjörður project, focusing on unexpected situations aimed at minting, in particular extreme inflows of groundwater. The technical contribution is analysis model using Q-system suggesting the dimension of the tunnel reinforcement for two differnet geological features encountered dutiny the excavation of tunnel
