Abstract
This thesis deals with the development of energy in the 21st century in the world and the Czech Republic and assessment of alternative energy sources. It is focused on the distribution of energy sources such as biomass, wind energy, hydropower, solar energy, geothermal energy and energy from waste. Work specifies their use and impact on the environment. The last section deals with economic advantage of alternative energy sources, security of supply and cost savings compared to fossil fuels.
