Abstract

This work deals with the use of already built a metropolitan network, which is used to transfer useful information from sensors and monitors. Creating a new so-called Quad play service, which extends the existing Triple play service (voice, video, data). The network promoting the idea of Smart City. Smart cities are designed to improve the living conditions of its inhabitants through modern digital technologies. Sensors are introducing through GEPON technology into the MAN network with the assistance of wavelength division multiplexing. First measurement is in a simulation environment OptiSystem then in test network and the last step is the introduction of services in real environment. The results from the measurements of the quality parameters of the network and sensor response to measurand can rise to a new model. This model may be an essential building block for creating better cities in future, where ordinary people will be able to live better life with minimized costs.
