Abstract

This thesis deals with the formation and tests of inorganic coatings and their evaluation for medical use. The introduction describes the applications of biomaterials in the human body and their distribution according to their properties. The main part of this thesis is dedicated to stainless steel AISI 316L (1.4404), which is used for medical implants. Next part is aiming on the degradation and protection of biomaterials from Corrosion degradation in the human body environment. The practical part deals with the formation of hydroxyapatite coatings on the surface of stainless steel substrate and subsequent testing of electrochemical properties. Furthermore, the coatings were subjected to image analysis of the particles dispersion in the layer and surface wettability tests, respectively pull-out tests. Testing of inorganic coatings results in an assessment that has the best properties for placement in the human body. Based on the above, it has been found that the most suitable coating for bioapplication is the hydroxyapatite coating doped with addition of zinc.
