Abstract
This thesis analyzes the credit for their role in the economy and then compares the banking sector and credit markets in the Czech Republic and Hungary, while more attention is given to the household sector. The aim is to use the methods of comparison and description based on the indicators used to assess the development and performance of the banking sector in the Czech Republic and Hungary, and also assess developments in the credit markets, with a closer focus on the household sector. The work suggests that the Czech banking sector is stable and exhibits favorable values than the banking sector in Hungary. Household debt in the Czech Republic is at a lower level than in Hungary and thus will not represent a threat to the financial stability of banks. In Hungary, the financial stability of banks is being threatened due to higher household debt, which is mainly indebted in foreign currencies and are affected by the exchange rate of the forint.
