Abstract

This master’s thesis deals with finding a suitable methodology for determining pacemaker battery capacity and condition. They can be determined by a programmer, which is however because of its cost only available at large hospitals. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to develop functions that would make it possible to measure the battery condition after magnet application. In the introduction of the thesis, cardiac physiology and diseases leading to cardiostimulation are analysed. What follows is the description of the electrocardiogram, problems of pacemakers and proper pacemaker feeding. The practical part includes the design and implementation of a battery measurement system. Furthermore, a test of battery life in pulse mode and tests of the device in clinical practice are presented. In the final part, the achieved results are evaluated.
