Abstract

This bachelor´s thesis analyses the fire safety of original chimneys built since 1940s and of reconstructed chimneys. Based on the analysis, an optimal procedure for chimney reconstruction with focus on fire safety is proposed. The first part of the thesis presents current legal and technical requirements on reconstructed chimneys with respect to their construction and materials used. The next part deals with construction, materials and defects of original chimneys. Also, properties of materials and their testing methods are assessed. Current procedures for reconstruction of original chimneys with respect to fire safety are analysed in the last part of the thesis. Subsequently, an appropriate solution to improve fire safety of chimneys after reconstruction is proposed.
