Abstract

The bachelor thesis focuses on the characterization of the friction surface of the brake discs of the cast iron and stainless steel after the friction test. Friction surfaces of both types of discs were studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and glow-discharge optical emission spectroscopy (GDOES). Scanning electron microscope equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy technique was used for the characterization of morphology and the cross section of both discs. Glow-discharge optical emission spectroscopy was used to perform the characterization of the bulk chemical composition of both discs and the profile analysis. The objective of this work is to verify suitability utilization of profile analysis performed using technique GDOES for characterization of the friction layer formed on surface of the cast iron and stainless steel brake discs.
