Abstract

School and Museum in area of Barbora Mine, location Karviná-Doly This work will deal with today's almost deserted area Karviná - Doly. This area is a prime example of several phenomena associated with coal mining in the Ostrava-Karviná coal basin - the once prosperous town of Karviná with a rich history and significant buildings was struggling with progressive, massive and uncontrolled mining and began to decline. The result was mass abandonment of the city and demolition of the original buildings. For the past decades, the area has been left to natural and seismic influences, which have transformed the originally inhabited developed area into a landscape with unprecedented value of biodiversity and its own genius loci. The aim of this diploma thesis will be to revive this almost forgotten landscape, to explore all the important influences that have affected it in the past, as well as the use of historical, natural and spiritual wealth, which is so unique to this place. In my work, I will focus on the revitalization of abandoned mining areas with the aim to create public, cultural and educational spaces in the former Barbora mine, which would enrich it and bring it back to life with regard to regained natural values.
