Abstract

The goal of the EU Regional Policy is to support the harmonious and well-balanced development of the Community by reducing regional economic and social disparities. This bachelor thesis deals with the implementation of the EU Regional Policy in the Kingdom of Belgium. The main objective of this thesis is to provide a comprehensive view on the complicated structure of Belgium, especially from the socio-economic point of view. This thesis also defines the competences and communication between the Regions and Communities. It is mainly focused on the programming period 2007-2013, in which it analyses and evaluates the EU structural aid in Belgium. Additionally it deals with the recent situation in the actual programming period 2014-2020. According to available data, the absorption rate of Belgium is slightly above average compare to the other EU member states. Even still, Belgium faces long-term regional disparities, which have an impact on the implementation of the EU Regional Policy.
