Abstract

This master thesis deals with selected non-ferrous metals and selected rare earth metals as an addition for refining a microstructure in ingots. Properties of common non-ferrous metals and rare earth metals are described in this thesis. Rare earth metals are added in steel during solidification in much less amount compared to common alloying elements. New created intermetallic phases are illustrated in binary diagrams in appendix. The application of rare earth metals addition for proper refining of structure in the steel 42CrMo4 was used. Results of experimental examination of steel with cerium addition prove banite, martensite and numerous clusters of inclusions.
