Abstract

The aim of the thesis ”Collapse of the USSR and the Transformation of the Russian Economy“ is to describe causes which gave rise to collapse of the USSR and to compare next development of former countries of the USSR with detailed focus on the transformation of the Russian federation economy. This thesis uses methods of comparison, description, analysis and historical method. First part is the introduction where is defined the aim of the thesis and the outline of the structure according to component chapters. The second chapter examines the theoretical foundations of the economic transformation process. The third chapter deals with context of the collapse of the USSR. Further in this chapter the development of former countries of the USSR after the collapse of the USSR is being compared. The fourth chapter focuses on the transformation of the Russian federation economy and effects which are related to it. The fifth chapter is conclusion where the progress of individual chapters is recapitulated. Sources of data for the empirical part were used mostly from international institutions such as EBRD, UN, Freedom House, Transparency International, World Bank and from published scientific articles.
