Nerve Stimulation based on Dental Pressure Detection

Abstract

Thesis deals with the design of a smart mouthguard capable of sensing different force levels during chewing and mandibular occlusion applied by the wearer using a piezoresistive sensor. The designed prototype sends the detected force levels via RF communication to the stimulation circuit, which stimulates trigeminal nerve branches in three preset modes based on their magnitude and duration. The functionality of the system is verified using SIMULINK simulation procedure. Moreover, GUI for real time data display was developed.
