Abstract

The diploma work is divided into three main theoretical chapters. In the first chapter the thesis deals with the surface treatment and the features of glazes and engobes. It aims to describe the basic features of the glazes themselves and the main characteristics in the usage of pigments. The second chapter is devoted to the testing of the glazes and the pigments, not only from the optical point of view, but also as far as the mechanical features are concerned. The last theoretical chapter deals with the utilization of wastes, in other words the secondary raw materials. At its beginning, the experimental part is orientated towards choosing the right raw material feedstock for its application on the ceramic fragment. The thesis also deals with the preparation of glazes and engobes from the metalurgic manufacture dust and the individual types of dust applicated on the ceramic fragment. These various types of dust are used for the preparation of glazes and are consequently burned off in different temperatures. My examinations show that regarding these type of dust, their impact and the rate of colouring both depend on the burn-off temperature.
