Abstract

This thesis deals with air protection in the Czech Republic and European Union. Air protection policy is one of priority areas of environmental policy in European Union. The aim of this thesis is based on an analysis of development of air protection policy in EU and CR. So the aim is the evaluation of results, which were achieved in air quality and definition of the main factors, that influenced the development of air quality in the last period. The solution is also definition of the main trends of EU air protection policy and attitude of CR to solving these problems. In the first part thesis deals with the assessment of development of air protection legislation. Further the thesis deals with the extent of produced pollution and development of air quality in the EU member states. The following part is devoted to detailed analysis of the development, evaluation of current situation and achievements in improving air quality in the Czech Republic. Due to problems in some areas, the third part of this thesis is focused on the specific situation in the most polluted agglomeration called Moravian-silesian region and the possibility of further reductions of bad air quality in this area. The conclusion of this thesis includes an assessment of results of air protection in the European Union and Czech Republic, a summary of knowledges of development in air quality and the factors, that influenced it. To avoid the negative effects of air pollution on human health and ecosystems, the Czech Republic is obliged to seek for ensure implementation of air pollution limits for certain pollutants.
